The study was
conducted by researchers at the University of Wales in
Swansea. The University distributed 100,000 questionnaires
through public libraries and received 10,000 replies. Thus
10,000 library users were categorised into personality types
based upon what they
read.
Fiction
produced stranger dreams in adults, dreams that were usually
remembered. Lovers of fantasy novels were more prone to
nightmares and 'lucid' dreams in which they are aware that
they are
dreaming.
Those of us who
like romantic fiction were found to be emotionally intense.
Children tended to have more nightmares if they read scary
books.

If all this
worries you, take comfort that the older you get, the less
nightmares you
have.
What this study
called Dream Lab tells us, is that your dream type is
determined by your personality.
The aim of the
study in case you are wondering, was to 'examine any
correlation between aspects of our waking lives, including
reading and visiting libraries, and the content, frequency and
recall of our dreams.'
