The foundation
of Food Science Central will be a web implementation of the
complete (1969-present) Food Science and Technology
AbstractsTM
(FSTA TM) database, provided
directly from IFIS
for the first time. This implementation will deliver new
features and services, including a powerful, easy-to-use
search interface; links from FSTA records to the online
scientific literature; an online thesaurus and dictionary; and
weekly alerting services notifying users of the latest
additions to
FSTA.
Linked to FSTA,
will be the launch of a new online mini-review journal,
FSTA Bulletin
. The
mini-reviews, written by front-line researchers, will report
and interpret advances in key areas of the food sciences as
reflected in FSTA.
User friendly information
products
"It is a goal of IFIS to reach out
to a wider customer base through the provision of appropriate,
accessible and user-friendly information products and
services," said Jeremy Selman, General Manager of IFIS. "We
are really looking forward to being able to bring a more
flexible approach to the marketplace, so that we can also
fulfil the needs of small- and medium-sized enterprises within
the food industry."
Food Science
Central will be the new home of IFIS on the web. Here,
IFIS will continue to offer information on access to FSTA
through IFIS's partners, as well as associated product
information, training, and demonstrations.
Food Science
Central will also be a platform for an exciting mix of new
scientific information products and services. Registration
will be simple and free, and includes unrestricted access to
many resources, including:
|

 Hosting and linking to important
resources
Food Science Central will be home to
discussion groups on issues of topical importance, providing
access to a network of focused advice and expertise for users
to contribute to and to draw from. Related to this will be the
hosting of and linking to important resources (position
papers, scientific reports, bulletins) for the food sciences
community. Users will also be able to sign up for a free
alerting service based on scientific papers selected for FSTA
from key journals.
