Computing Reviews named web site of the week by CMP's Information Week

Computing Reviews, an online resource for reviews of the best in computing literature, was named the Web Site of the Week by CMP's InformationWeek .
Developed by reviews.com, a Silicon Valley-based publisher of reviews of academic and professional literature, and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Computing Reviews is a dynamic community where qualified reviewers recommend the best new books, articles, and other media; where editors ensure the integrity of reviews; and where the entire computer science community collaborates. The result is a continually updated overview of the best new material published in the field.

"We've developed Computing Reviews as the premier site for reviews of computing literature, and our selection as site of the month by CMP's InformationWeek shows the information community is recognizing that achievement," said Bruce Antelman, Chief Executive Officer of reviews.com.

 10 years of archives online

Computing Reviews is an online system that provides scientists and professionals with reviews of articles and books in computer science. Based on Computing Reviews, which the ACM has been publishing for more than 40 years, Computing Reviews brings 10 years of archives online for searching and browsing. The service provides a new way for readers to search for and access information based on quality, and allows reviewers to write, and editors to edit, directly on the Web.

"Reviews.com's technological and software development expertise has provided our editors and reviewers with the ideal venue for quickly and efficiently publishing their reviews." said Carol Wierzbicki, Executive Editor of ACM's Computing Reviews. "The ACM has a history of publishing reviews based on quality, relevance and currency of information. Readers will now benefit from the ability to search and browse those reviews, link to full text, share their opinions and read multiple points of view from the perspective of a global online community. I am very pleased to offer these services to our members; the ACM has been providing its content digitally for over three years, and has always been at the forefront of using technology in our organization."

Interface transferable to other academic communities

"We are very excited to have been able to team with the ACM for our first offering," said Antelman of reviews.com. "The technology we've perfected for computingreviews.com has provided the base to build reviews.com into the premier reviewing service for academic and scientific literature. We are currently searching for new partners, as we have designed the computingreviews.com interface and production system to be easily transferable to other academic, professional and consumer communities. The addition of more titles will enhance the service further by affording reviews.com the unique ability to share information among disciplines." Reviews.com is currently negotiating agreements with other societies and information providers who wish to provide a community environment for reviews and a wider audience for their content.

Founded in 1999, reviews.com develops community based reviewing services for academic and professional disciplines. Reviews.com is affiliated with Information Express which has been delivering information both in hardcopy and online for 15 years.
