With Digital ID
Collection Management, the libraries will improve such library
tasks as locating lost and missing items, performing shelf
reading, re-shelving, weeding, and finding cataloguing errors,
all at a fraction of the time and cost
it takes with traditional methods. Among the Asian institutions
that will install 3M's system are:

which houses a collection of more than 250,000
items

Lifetime guarantee for the items
they identify
For each of the
new locations, the first step in the installation process will
be to mark items with 3MTM Digital Identification Tags. Each
tag includes a tiny antennae and memory chip that stores
information about the item it marks, and the tags are
"rewriteable" so libraries don’t have to purchase new ones
every time there is a need to change information about an
item. Like 3MTM Tattle-TapeTM Security Strips, 3MTM
Digital Identification Tags are guaranteed for the life of the
items they identify.
A complete
Digital Identification System includes: the 3MTM Digital ID
Tags, the 3MTM Digital Library Assistant (DLA), the 3MTM
Digital SelfCheckTM System, the 3MTM Digital Staff
Workstation, the 3MTM Digital Conversion Station and the
3MTM Digital Data Manager; all of which can be combined with
book drop and sorting systems.
